The Grand Central Food Block Party
The summer is going fast; it always does. But now is not the time for sulking; this is the sweet spot of the season! August and September in New York City are still prime summer months for exploring and indulging under the sun; the weather is starting to mellow out a bit, and the ambient hum of air conditioners has decreased significantly. And there’s no better place to explore and indulge than the Grand Central Food Block Party.
For those lucky enough to reside in apartments near Grand Central Station, such as the classic luxury residences at The Buchanan in Midtown East, this incredible street fair is right around the block. So, stop by on August 25th and September 8th (or even on October 13th and October 27th) to get a taste of the fun.
The Grand Central Food Block Party, an event known throughout all five boroughs, takes place on 41st Street between 3rd and Lexington Avenue. While NYC is famous for its wealth of diverse and vibrant food festivals and outdoor markets, you will be hard-pressed to find one more all-encompassing than this. 20 different food booths feature fresh fare from around the world, and many of the offerings are doled out in small plates, so sampling from multiple vendors is certainly doable. A walk down 41st Street can be a globe-traversing culinary adventure.
Amid the food vendors, the 50 merchant booths truly run the gamut as well, with everything from sculptures, statues, and paintings to handmade jewelry, regional specialties, fashion accessories, clothing, and just about anything else you’re looking for. And—perhaps the most important feature of the Grand Central Food Block Party—it’s dog-friendly!
The mix is certainly eclectic, and there seems to be no central focus tying the event together, which is a good thing. Sometimes festivals can be hampered by their adherence to a certain theme, but this one is only defined by its inclusion of the best vendors around.
At any time of the year, Midtown East is known for its culinary diversity. Fabulous Italian, Brazilian, French, Cajun, Mexican, and American eateries are scattered throughout the neighborhood, and the retail shopping experience is top-notch as well. The Grand Central Food Block Party is a wonderful (and logical) extension of this year-round plenty that you don’t want to miss!
